Message From The Bishop

Bishop Wester

My Dear Friends in Christ:

Inspired by the Biblical directive given to the disciples in Matthew 28:19 to “go forth and make disciples of all nations,” Pope Francis encourages each of us to go forth and share the joy of the Gospel. By doing so, we demonstrate our willingness to follow our Lord’s vision for the Church and fully act as stewards of our faith.

Through the 2015 Diocesan Development Drive (DDD), which officially begins the weekend of February 1st, we as Catholics in the Diocese of Salt Lake City realize our call to “go forth.” The DDD provides funding and supporting services that exceed the abilities of any individual parish. A good example is the extensive effort of Catholic Community Services, which not only addresses the needs of the homeless, but also assists in the relocation and settlement of refugee families. Formation of future priests and deacons to serve our diocese, support of youth and young adult activities and essential rural outreach ministry are also funded by your generous contributions to the DDD.

Two items we see each day are windows and mirrors. We look “through” a window and “at” a mirror. We can live our lives as one or the other. Window people look beyond themselves and see others, but mirror people see only themselves. As Christ’s followers we are called to be window people. Through Christian stewardship we find joy in promoting God’s work in the world by “going forth” to serve others through the ministries of the Church.

I am deeply grateful for your past generosity as a member of the Bishop’s Leadership Society. Your gift makes a difference in the lives of those we serve. I ask you to prayerfully consider continuing your support of the work of the Diocese of Salt Lake City through the 2015 Diocesan Development Drive. With your support, we can maintain and enhance vital ministries and services. Please review the enclosed document which outlines levels of support and consider increasing your support.

With profound gratitude for your commitment to our local Church, I remain

Sincerely yours in the Lord,

John C. Wester
